Visit Grand Egyptian Order (GOE)practiced within the Grand Orient de France (GODF)is one of the forms that Egyptian Masonic rites have taken over the course of time. Heir to the Memphis Rite, it was recast into 33 degrees by Jean-Étienne Marconis de Nègre in 1862, then handed over to the GODF, where it remained dormant until its revival in 1999.
Today, it constitutes a complete initiatory path, recognized and practised by numerous workshops, combining Egyptian tradition, symbolic teaching and ritual rigour.
The decorations used in this context are distinguished by their sobriety and strict conformity to GODF practices. Each apron, cord or saltire reflects the particular identity of the Grand Ordre Égyptien, while respecting the continuity of the high ranks of the Memphis-Misraïm Rite.

The so-called Egyptian Masonic Rites appear from the end of the 18th century, carried by Egyptomania which was quite widespread among the Freemasons and which was then exacerbated by the Campaign of Egypt of Napoleon. The Ancient and Primitive Rite of Memphis Misraïm is currently the main representative of this Egyptian Freemasonry and is practiced in a different form at the Grand Orient de France under the name of Great Egyptian order.
The origin of this Rite is the merger in 1881, in Italy, of two older Egyptian Rites, the Rite of Misraïm (1805, and not 1788, as claimed by Robert Ambelain) and the Rite of Memphis (1838).
The Egyptian Rites are characterized by their numerous high degrees. The Rite of Misraïm first counted 77 degrees (including symbolic grades), a number which was then brought to 90. The Rite of Memphis rite rose to 96 degrees. The Ancient and Primitive Rite of Memphis Misraïm counts 99 degrees, the degrees 4 to 33 being the same as in the AASR. The Egyptian rRite practiced within the Grand Egyptian Order of the Grand Orient de France only counts 33 degrees: this is an overhaul that the founder of the Rite of Memphis, Jacques-Étienne Marconis de Nègre had made, before putting his patents back to the Grand Orient in 1862. This 33 degrees version of the Rite remained in sleep until his wake up in 1999.
Of the 33 degrees of the great Egyptian order, only the 12th , 20th, 27th, 30th, 31st, 32nd, 33rd degrees.
