Origins and evolution of the Rite Français Groussier
The French Rite, born in 1785, has undergone several revisions. The "Gérard" version of 1922 had largely stripped the ritual of its symbols, resulting in an impoverished initiation. Faced with this drift, Arthur GroussierGrand Master of the GODF from 1925 to 1940, launched an in-depth reform.
Between 1938 and 1955, a collective effort resulted in a revision that restored the rite's symbolic richness while preserving its clarity. This version, now known as the Rite Français Groussierhas become the official reference for the Grand Orient de France and remains the most widely used to this day.
Characteristics of the Rite Français Groussier
The Groussier French Rite is distinguished by :

✔ A decor-specific shade The turquoise blue, recognizable at first glance, distinguishes it from the sky-blue of the Rite Français Traditionnel or the Rite Français Moderne Rétabli.
✔ A humanist orientation Faithful to the secular and progressive spirit of the GODF, it values freedom of conscience.
✔ Wide distribution French Rite: massively adopted, it is now the most widely practiced form of the French Rite in France.
