Master Mason's Player Hat

The wearing of hats by Master Masons during the Works dates back to the 18th century, when they were combined with the wearing of swords. The wearing of these two distinctive signs of nobility explains in part the enthusiasm of the bourgeoisie to be received as Masons at the time. The type of hat was not described in the old rituals, as it was a common headgear in secular life. Only certain High Degrees prescribed specific ritual headgear. Today, some Rites recommend a particular ritual headgear. The Lodges of many Masonic Rites often use a black city hat. Why not adopt a Player hat and combine fashion with originality?
