The wearing of the hat by the Masters during the Works dates back to the 18th century, when it was associated with the wearing of the sword. The wearing of these two distinctive signs of nobility partly explains why the bourgeoisie of the time were so keen to be received as Masons. The type of hat was not described in the old rituals, as these were everyday headdresses in profane life. Only certain High Degrees prescribed specific ritual headdresses. This is the case of this violet headdress, intended for the Freemasons of the American Royal Arch.
This violet Scribe’s headdress is adorned with the Triple Tau, gold braids and Laurels.
