The Ancient and Primitive Rite of Memphis-Misraïm was created in 1881 from the merger of the Rite of Misraïm (1805) and the Rite of Memphis (1838), and is distinguished by its high number of degrees:

Misraïm initially had 77, later increased to 90, while Memphis had 92. The Ancient and Primitive Rite of Memphis-Misraïm has 99, degrees 4 to 33 of which are shared with the Ancient and Primitive Rite of Memphis-Misraïm. Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite (REAA).

Today, this initiation system is still practised in many obediences, while within the Grand Orient de France, a 33-degree version is in use under the name of Grand Egyptian Order.
